NGSG, CHINESE FIRM TO BUILD POWER PLANT

Niger State Government is to collaborate with a Chinese firm towards the establishment of an Independent Power Plant in the State.

Speaking when he received in audience a delegation of the Chinese investors at the Government House, Minna, the Chief Servant and Governor of the State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu declared that his administration is interested and will support any project intended to generate power for the State.

He explained that all the necessary preliminary discussions and arrangemnts are currently being made to ensure that the construction of the 138 megawatt Power Plant, expected to be ready in 16 -20 months, begins in earnest. It will be powered by gas and black oil.

Earlier, Dr. Mustapha Abdulsalam who led the Chinese delegation said they were in the State to explore the possibility of establishing an Independent Power Plant (IPP) in the State.

Dr. Abdulsalam stated that in establishing the Power Plant, China will take up 51 percent of the ownership of the project while the remaining 49 percent will be held by the State Government. He said should the State Government become unable to take up its percentage, First Bank of Nigeria PLC is ready to take up the balance.

The Chinese company has been in the Power Plant business for years and is presently in Nigeria having constructed the Power Plants at Papalanto and Omotosho both in South West Nigeria.
